We would like to highlight the advantages of using Little Reader, as well as the differences between using flash cards, PowerPoint slideshows, DVD-based programs and our program.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Little Reader is not designed to replace anything, but to complement everything else that is available. We recommend giving children as much variety in learning as possible - teach your baby with flash cards, DVDs, and most importantly, teach your child to read with 'real' books! Each has its role to play, and each is different enough to give your child a different 'twist' to learning!
What can you do with Little Reader that you cannot do with Flash Cards?
Show video (especially useful for action words)
Play back pre-recorded pronunciations, including foreign language pronunciations
Play back sound effects
Easily customize and personalize your word library with personalized media attached
Display a different picture each time the same word is played back, enabling a better overall illustration of the meaning of that word. Same principle applies to other media associated with a word, e.g.,. video and audio effects.
Easily switch between different modes of display, e.g.
Word flash,
Picture flash,
Word + picture/video (multisensory)
Flash much more rapidly and easily by just clicking the mouse
Have highly-customizable playback viewing of words, eg., word color, font type, letter casing, and these settings can be saved for each word set for convenient play back
Have a word library that is easily expandable and potentially limitless, with frequent new word sets provided by BrillKids and other users, just a few simple clicks away
Keep track of exactly how many times each word has been played
Record playback as a video file which can be transferred onto DVD for playback on the living room TV
Note: Little Reader also allows you to print out your word library, both in flash card style, or lift-the-flap multisensory style, if you wish.
Advantages of Flash Cards* compared to Little Reader's Printouts
Very large cards, with large words, easier to see for small babies
Thick and not easily damaged
Does not require effort to print out and fold
* We are referring to flash cards that are professionally-made and of high quality.
